KAIMKILLENBUN TRAIL RIDE- 4/5 MAY

US DUAL SPORT SHOOT-OUT

WR250r is best in class!!

Up against Kawasaki's KLX250S and  Honda's CRF250L, Yamahas' WR250R brought it home with its genuine off-road credentials.

If I had to choose one, it would be the WR250R. It’s the most expensive, but as a taller rider, it’s the only bike in this test that really seems to fit. I’m not much of a tinkerer, so I like the fact that the WR comes pretty well sorted right out of the box. To me, it handles the most like an enduro bike. Any time the trail got gnarly or the speeds  increased, the Yamaha felt the most at home.
-Ray Gauger

On the road the Yamaha plays the part of a true dirt bike. The engine emits a bit of vibration and also puts out the most noise, too. In the sound test the blue bike had the loudest bark emitting 75 dB at idle and 90 dB at half throttle. Despite being a few points higher than the ultra-quiet Honda it wasn’t obnoxious and added a degree of excitement, especially when the rider grabs a handful of throttle and lets the engine rev out. The handlebar has a conventional yet relaxed-style bend and the seat provided good support. It wasn’t quite as accommodating as the street-friendly Honda but wasn’t so bad that any of us complained.

In the acceleration tests the Yamaha got up to speed the quickest. Its zero-to-60 mph time of 7.3 seconds was more than a second faster than both the Kawasaki and Honda. It also registered the fastest quarter mile run of 15.57 seconds with top speed of 81.6 mph.

With its taller seat and trusty dirt bike-style ergos the WR might be more demanding for some to ride. Still, those who are willing to make a sacrifice will experience a ride like no other. From the smooth yet strong top-end power of its rev-happy engine to its accurate and sure footed chassis, the Yamaha offers poise that the competition  simply can’t match.

Dual Ride to Dorrigo Success & David Roughlys' Race Update

26/04/2013

Lismore Motorcycles

Dual Ride To Dorrigo

Once again, the Lismore Motorcycles overnight ride to Dorrigo was an enormous success, with approximately 50 people who enthusiastically signed on the Saturday morning.

The weather was absolutely glorious; after the several weeks of rain we’ve had, the conditions for riding were perfect.

For all the road riders, the first stop was at the Lawrence Tavern for a quick stop and some morning tea, and later stopping to have a hearty meal at Glen Reagh for lunch. At the end of the day, we all made it to the Dorrigo Hotel in time for a bit of relaxation and dinner.

There were 6 guys who chose to tackle an adventure route, notching up some 900 km over the entire weekend. LMC received some feedback that they “thoroughly enjoyed the chosen route”, even though there were a few of the usual predicaments along the way such as flat tyres.

A few of the photos show the dirt team on the Old Grafton Road having a break and talking to a biker-friendly ranger at Dalmorton who gave the guys a lot of information in regards to different tracks and where to go to for weekend trips.

The highlight of the evening was the “Build a Bike” challenge. We were all astonished at the seriousness of the task at hand. Each team produced their own amazing bike from bits and pieces purchased, acquired and gathered sneakily along the way. Lots of alcohol was consumed out of cans to build these bikes, as well as straws, eating forks, a thong, lots of tooth picks, pipe cleaners, citrus fruits etc. The winning team was chosen by the bar staff, and awarded the LMC trophy. As the night continued a good time was had by all.

The next day the sun also shone. We all met up at a few stops along the way back to home, including the Nymboida Coaching Station and those who visited the museum were very impressed. It was a great place to have lunch and the view down to the river was stunning.

We’d like to give a big thanks to Craig Caban, Phil Anderson and Martin Tobin for organising the routes, and also a thank you to all of those who came along making the weekend a memorable one!

If you brought along a camera and got some good snaps, please send them into us, either on Facebook or email them to mowers@liscycles.com.au

Southern Downs Road Race Series

Round 1, 2013

[David Roughly]

• 2 days of supporting our club & 2 days of racing
• Smashed PB by another 1.6 seconds
3rd Overall in the 600 Championship

"Thursday began with a booked out coaching day, I assist as a level 2 coach. Leading the  intermediate group, we focused on technique such as vision, body position and lines, with heaps of  track time and individual feedback. These days are long, but so rewarding, seeing riders happy, less fatigued, smoother and conquering personal challenges really ticks the boxes for me.

Friday was the track day, again with high numbers. As a coach, we go out in each group as a  traveling marshals, focusing on safety and assisting riders with lines etc. Unfortunately in my group a kangaroo hit a rider at high speed, thankfully the rider is OK now, skippy was less fortunate.

Saturday was the commencement of racing. This year I have made the switch to the formula 2  class, on the LMC R6. I qualified 6th out of 24 competitors, then a 2nd in race one and 4th in race  2. I was feeling good on the R6. I also had some fun on the LMC RM-Z450 motard, enjoying the  class I started racing in.

Sunday brought the sun out at last, I started to feel some fatigue from the back to back classes though, my results on the 600 slipped unfortunately. I made the tough call to stop racing the motard and focus on the 600 championship. My results picked up again, with some great racing, chasing fellow competitors down. I gained 3rd overall for the weekend, smashed my personal best by a  whopping 1.6 seconds and felt really good on the bike.

It was a great weekend, the pit setup and bikes looked great, the R6 was on fire and am stoked with 3rd in the championship points table. I cannot thank everyone enough for the ongoing support, especially the team at Lismore Motorcycles for a faultless Yamaha R6, Tyres for Bikes for the Dunlop tyre choice and Chris from XXX rated suspension. Thanks team, it is really appreciated."

QUINN RACING 2013 - Rd 1 Phillip Island

Yamaha Well Represented In ASBK For 2013

The Yamaha R6 combined with the Yamaha Racing Team Development program proved an unstoppable force at  the opening round of the Australian Superbike Championship that was run in conjunction with the World Superbike Championship at Phillip Island over the weekend.

YRT supported riders of Aaron Morris and Daniel Falzon both won a race each of the 600cc Supersport category while Chris Quinn was at his consistent best taking second in both races in a Yamaha display of dominance that was even further highlighted when the top six riders in race two were Yamaha R6 mounted.

Chris Quinn showed blistering speed over the weekend and used his years of experience to be well placed after the opening round. He overcame issues during timed qualifying and a third row start on the grid to post fast laps and good results. His second place finish in both races gave him second for the round, just three points off Falzon but more impressive was his speed in the final race, clocking the fastest lap of the race and one of the best laps on a 600cc bike seen at Phillip Island in an amazing battle for the lead, on his Coopers Pale Ale Yamaha R6.

“It was a very pleasing weekend,” stated YRT’s John Redding. “Both the YRT development riders and those with YRD assistance performed well and it was a great weekend for Yamaha in the Supersport class.”

“Race two was an incredible race and one of the best I have seen. All six guys were in an intense battle for the lead and it showcased the talent and skill of the riders and the performance of the Yamaha R6.”

“It was a great start to the series for Daniel and Chris, while Aaron showed his has the speed and I’m sure he will make up the lost points in the coming rounds.”

Big thanks to all the team mechanics & personnel for all their assistance over the weekend, especially to our two mechanics Pete Madsen,Jesse Martin and Anthony Quinn who performed the engine swap after qualifying from the spare bike in such a short time to give Chris such a great package to complete in the 2 races and post also the fastest lap times in both races. Also a mention to our suspension technician, Scott Heyes of Edge Competition for doing such a great job with the Yamaha R6.

We would like to thank all our family and friends for their continued support for the ongoing 2013 ASBK Supersport season along with our 2013 sponsors who will help us contend for the #1 plate this year.

ASBK Results – Round 1 Phillip Island Supersport 600cc:

1st Daniel Falzon –43 points - Jon Daniels Racing Yamaha R6
2nd Chris Quinn – 40 points – Coopers Pale Ale Yamaha R6
3rd Ryan Taylor – 34 points – YRD Yamaha R6

Lismore Motorcycles Suspension Seminar.

On Saturday 12th of January we were thrilled to have Terry Hay from "Shock Treatment" in Sydney fly up to give us a 4hr seminar on suspension set up and operation,  and the benefits it gives you, both for racers and everyday riders. One comment made by an attendee was that the information he received on the day was really going to take a few seconds of lap times.

Another comment made, with the information given by Terry, was how it was going to make riding his dirt bike much easier.

It is with these comments made by people who came along support what we are trying to achieve.

Although the temperature was extremely hot, the afternoon was a great success and everyone took something of benefit away with them. We'd like to thank all those who attended for supporting the industry and Lismore Motorcycles.

If you want to achieve these results and benefits from our experience we can do this with Ben Rose in the workshop who has been trained at Shock Treatment by Race Tech. guru Paul Thead from USA. We can set up your weekend ride or race bike how you want it, road or dirt.

Lismore Motorcycles is proud to be hosting

A 4 hour Off Road Suspension seminar

Terry Hay from Shock Treatment is very excited to fly up from Sydney for this event!

Terry Hay’s Shock Treatment business began its specialised, motorcycle suspension operation in 1996. Motivated by performance and a quest for knowledge, Terry travelled to Los Angeles, California to attend the Race Tech “Technical Edge” suspension Seminars. Returning several times to study advanced theory and continually furthers his education on the subject. Today Terry and Shock Treatment have proven to be Australia’s premier suspension outlet. They are the first for solving design issues with stock suspension as well as industry leaders in innovative concepts and ideas.

In a non-regulated industry where untrained people are allowed to call themselves “Suspension Tuners”, Shock Treatment has attempted to raise the standard through education. We regularly host training seminars in Australia featuring Paul Thede from Race Tech USA. Paul is one of the most credentialed person in the suspension industry today. Sadly some refuse to be educated, leaving pitfalls for the unwary.

Remember …”Not all suspension tuners are created equal”

Ben Rose Lismore Motorcycles Race Tech Suspension Technician will be available for your enquires or suspension performance bookings for your work required.

This is the 1st seminar held out side of Sydney

Topics covered but not limited to will include

·         Spring rate analysis

·         Oil flow and valving theory

·         Ride height and sag and what this means to you

·         Preventative maintenance

·         Sprung and unsprung mass theory

·         Affects on steering angles and rake

Off Road Suspension Seminar.

Kids Bike Maintenance Night.

Lismore Motorcycles is proud to be hosting

A 4 hour Off Road Suspension seminar

Topics covered but not limited to will include:

-Spring rate analysis

-Oil flow and valving theory

-Ride height and sag and what this means to you

-Preventative maintenance

-Affects on steering angles and rake

  Time to Ride Winner Announced!

YMA is pleased to announce a winner of its Time
to Ride competition that closed on 26 Nov 2012.

Dave Ketels won back the purchase price of his
XVS650 V-Star after taking the learner approved
cruiser for a demo ride and recording his ride
impression in 25 words or less.
YMA judges deemed his entry the best of the lot
in the competition designed to attract riders onto
Yamaha demo bikes.
“So delighted to learn of this big news. I
honestly and purposely went in the promotion
with a view to winning it. It also fast tracked my
purchase, so I am just so thankful to you all at
Yamaha Motor Australia,” explains the 53-yearold.
“I wanted to maximise the legal cc limit, being a
LAMS rider, so the Yamaha XVS650 is the logical
choice and must be the ultimate desire of any LAMS rider,” continues
Ketels.
David chose to purchase his V-Star from City West Motorcycles in
Hoppers Crossing, VIC. Dealer Principal Deb van der Zee commented:
“We offered David a great sales experience for the demo ride. He
subsequently bought from us because of our sales approach and has
since had his first service and additional accessories fitted here because
he really appreciated the dealership experience.”
YMA wishes to extend its congratulations to David and to thank all who
participated in the Time to Ride competition. Look out for further
promotions on the Yamaha Motor website and at your local dealership.
David’s winning entry:
Media release Time to Ride comp winner 30-11-2012
“The LAMs rider’s ultimate desire. Amazing down low and high
speed torque, with a wild purr and clearly the best looking cruiser
in its class”

Ballina To Lismore

Great Weather, Great Turn-Out, Great Day!

We had a great turn out at the 2012 Toy Run with over 300 bikies who turned up for the event!

The event organiser is absolutely stoked that the 31st Annual Northern Rivers Toy Run was the most successful to date with 332 motorcycles participating. He said 'Given the economic climate, I was astounded at the support of everyone who turned up, great sponsors and good support from Local Council. We raised more money and more toys than previous years'. An outstanding effort from the Northern Rivers/NSW motorcycle community!

Jaymi Connolly's Results At The Australian Four Day Enduro!

One of Lismore Motorfcycles sponsored riders Jaymi Connolly reports: "The Australian four day Enduro is now complete and I've finished with a great result of 5th in the Ladies All Powers class. It was a great experience and loads of fun! The terrain was hilly and muddy and I found the YZ125 to be the best choice of bike, it was light enough for me to get out of tricky situations. There was 14 women that started the race but 2 days in, the weather turned for the worst and the class dwindled to 9. On day 4 the special test was superb and I felt really comfortable on the bike, I managed to get the second fastest time on the final test. My bike performed brilliantly over the 4 days and I would like to thank the team at Lismore Motorcycles who did a fantastic job in setting it up for the race. I am looking forward to next years A4DE in Harvey, Western Australia."

Lismore Motorcycles would like to congratulate Jaymi on her success! and all the best wishes for the future!

Super Ténéré is best adventure tourer..

  • Ténéré Tragics is a fun event that offers owners a great way to enjoy their purchase.
  • Super Ténéré ‘is easily the most dirt bike oriented bike of the five’ says AMCN.

Yamaha’s XTZ1200 Super Ténéré is rapidly
cementing a place at the top of the adventure
touring pile.

In AMCN’s recent adventure bike comparo, the XTZ1200 more than proved its worth as the best
off road oriented of the big dirt road tourers. Tester Mick Matheson finishes his story on the five
model comparo by giving the biggest thumbs up to the blue bike: “The Super Ténéré is the one
that reminds us most of a dirtbike, and the one you can just get on and go. It has an edge on the
BMW off-road thanks to better suspension, regardless of electrickery, and the way the rear
brake has a double personality.” In another recent adventure ride, 65 Ténéré fans
showed their support for the models by turning out for the the 2012 Ténéré Tragics Mountain to Mountain Run from Bathurst to Jindabyne,NSW.

Supported by YMA, the event is the brainchild of TrailZone editor and
Ténéré enthusiast Andrew ‘Clubby’ Clubb. It is open to owners of all model Ténérés from the original 1983
XT600Z right up to the latest XTZ1200. Now in its second year, the Mountain to
Mountain Run covered 1750kms of dirt road and narrow winding tar across five
days to keep owners of the big singles and twins entertained.
“It’s a fantastic event that offers Ténéré owners an opportunity to enjoy the
product and mix with like-minded people. The ride is supremely organised
and a heap of fun, and so is the postride bench racing,” explains YMA.

The next Ténéré Tragic event will be held in Longreach, QLD on 16 to 18
April 2013. Don’t forget the Get Set for Adventure promotion that offers free Outback
Packs for XTZ1200, $660 worth of gear for XTZ660, free on roads for
both and the 5.99% option loan is available on ‘A’ models or earlier until 26 November.
Look out for the Tragics reports in a variety of media outlets.

Aussie Junior Road Racers Network At Philip Island MotoGP

MotoDNA’s junior road racer program got into full swing at the Australian MotoGP at Philip Island, with a group of young Australian riders taking part in a MotoGP team networking event.
The juniors spent a couple of days with motoDNA Director and former MotoGP Engineer Mark McVeigh networking with top teams in their pit garages.

The young riders, Troy Guenther, Nic Limington, Tayla Relph, Olly Simpson and Lawson Walters where selected by motoDNA to take part based on their recent participation at Red Bull rookie tryouts held at the Monteblanco circuit in Spain.

MotoDNA Director Mark McVeigh said “We are happy to be able to give something back to a sport which, as our name suggests, is in our DNA. We have the ideal people in our team such as former Grand Prix riders Kevin Magee and Mark Willis who are motoDNA coaches and mentors for these young kids, and between us all we have an extensive network of motorcycle road racing contacts throughout MotoGP. These junior events are the building blocks to our foundation which we will launch next year with the goal to assist young Aussie riders on their path to MotoGP.”

WHAT A YEAR!!! JAYMI REPORTS ON THE EXCITING EVENTS THAT TOOK PLACE EARLIER THIS YEAR!

I have completed my last year of racing as a junior on a high. I gained the NSW State Championship title for the NSW Cross Country & Sprint Junior Championship and NSW Junior Enduro Championship. Three years ago I was the first junior female rider to gain both titles in the same year, and this year was my third year running to win both titles. The first two years were on my Yamaha YZ85 and this year was with my Yamaha YZ125 both have been fantastic bikes. In September I was lucky to be selected for the second time to attend the Australian Institute of Sport in an elite women’s camp which is fantastic for riders, the week is full on but you come home with knowledge to be able to ride better, the camp is well organised through Motorcycling Australia and is held each year.

After all that was done and I celebrated my 16th Birthday, I decided to “grow up” and become a senior. I had a dabble in my first senior race; the Husaberg Pony Express round 2 at Goomburra in September. With my Yamaha YZ125 and a mate Thomas Jenner who is in Pro Class we set off. We had to enter in Pro Class because you must ride in the fastest team members class, we held a steady pace for the day which gave us the result of 4th in class and 10th outright (Gotta be happy with that).

IF YOU'RE looking for a reason to get the motorbike out of the garage this weekend, the third annual Compression v Depression social ride is the perfect excuse.

Held as part of Motorcycle Awareness Week, it is also a fundraiser for Lifeline Northern Rivers.

Lifeline's counseling centre manager, Niall Mulligan, said the ride was a lot of fun and aimed to promote awareness of mental health issues.

"We see the participation of motorbike clubs, with their ethos of mateship and mutual support, in these events as providing an ideal opportunity to encourage everybody to look out for the emotional wellbeing of themselves, their family, their mates and their community," he said.

Compression v Depression is open to all motorcyclists. It is on this Sunday, starting with a show and shine and breakfast from 7.30am, with registrations from 8am.

The ride starts from the Rous Hotel/Café on Zadoc St, Lismore, at 9.30am.

Chris Quinn from Quinn Racing and The Channon Tavern, which are event sponsors, said he was looking forward to the ride. "We sponsored it last year as well and we think it's a really good cause," he said. "Last year I think we got about 200 people, so it was a great turnout. It's something that everyone can enjoy."

WHAT A MONTH PACKED WITH RESULTS !!!

First up was the final round of the Australian Supermoto Championship.
David competed in the ultra competitive S2 class for bikes up to 450cc in capacity. The series brought heavy rain,
dry dusty dirt infields, close racing and a good crowd base as this series was held in conjunction with the
Australian Superbike Series – ASBK. The LMC RM-Z450 was strong and ultra reliable all year. In a nutshell David
is stoked with 3rd in OZ for 2012 !!!!!!

Next up David flew to Broadford VIC to assist with the Big Day Out.
The following weekend David was back at Morgan Park, Warwick for the QLD Road Race Championship. David assisted
their club on Thursday with coaching, Friday as a track marshal/coach and raced the LMC R6 on Sat/Sun. David is
really enjoying the R6, this was reflected with a new PB, smashed by another 3 seconds!!! David was again stoked to finish 7th overall in QLD.

David finally gained accreditation as a level 2 coach with
Motorcycling Australia. David states "I am pretty passionate about the sport and helping others is a rewarding experience. ."
You should see more of David at tracks ahead, not just racing but helping others enjoy the sport as well !!!!!

EXPERT INPUT FOR KOALA HABITAT MANAGEMENT GUIDE FOR NORTHERN RIVERS MACADAMIA GROWERS

Managing koala habitat is an important consideration for any macadamia grower in the Northern Rivers, according to the Australian Macadamia Society, which has prepared an information sheet to assist them.

"We have worked with the community and specifically Friends of the Koala, the Northern Rivers Catchment Management Authority and Lismore City Council to provide valuable information to assist growers to more effectively manage any habitat on their properties," said CEO of AMS, Jolyon Burnett.

The information sheet outlines the need for koala habitat, the implications and considerations for any clearing and important issues for any replanting.

"We participated in the development of the Lismore City Council's Comprehensive Koala Plan of Management for south-east Lismore and recognise that macadamia growers have an important role to play in retaining mature koala habitat for food and vital native vegetation corridors right across the Northern Rivers region."

"At the same time growers need to maximise the productivity of their farms and this means some clearing or replanting to extend or protect plantings. This information sheet presents a number of questions which should be asked first and actions to be taken," Jolyon added.

Lismore based Friends of the Koala points out that the loss of habitat is the major threat facing koalas in the Northern Rivers, where they are listed as vulnerable to extinction under both New South Wales and Federal legislation.

Suggesting options for macadamia growers to protect and enhance the habitat through windbreaks or along sections of their property unsuited for macadamias should result in a win - win for the koalas and for growers environmental credentials.
